Indian Indigo

This print was first produced in 1868-70 as wallpaper ’Indian’, based on the
indene prints of the 18th century. Originally drawn by George Gilbert Scott
and later adapted by Morris. William Morris (1834–1896) was an English
textile designer and writer associated with the British Arts and Crafts
Movement and a major contributor to the revival of traditional British
textile arts and methods of production. The V&A holds an extensive
collection of his wallpaper, textile and tile designs. His plant- and floral
designs are still a source of inspiration for all artists all over the world
